Getting into sales manager roles with limited experience
Sales management opportunities don’t come around very often…
And if you have limited management experience, getting into these roles can be tough
A lot of times you need a combination of:
Your network and who you know
Your qualities you’ve shown as a leader without having the title
People who believe in you more than you believe in yourself
And you having a good reputation in your current role and outside your role.
Brett Narciso is an all round good guy
He’s a great member of the community and one of the most giving
I recommended him to apply for a role that ‘could’ have been a good fit
Then, he took it and ran with it
But it wasn’t because of me that got him the role.
It was because of all the above points I made
He had the qualities and a good reputation that made sense to put his name in the hat.
So, for those wanting to make a move into management
Or into your next role for that matter
Here are 3 tips from Brett that might help you.
“Having the opportunity presented to me via my network (The Collectiv).
Then, preparing very good for it with the main focus being great attitude and understanding who I'm speaking with and not being afraid to ask questions to know them better beforehand.
It's not pop quiz. It's open book test most people just never ask.
Priorities: understand what are the key metrics that if it gets improved everything else improves (kinda like the 80/20 rule).
In this case the key metrics I looked at was triage bookings, triages held, Triage set to strategy demo %, demo show rate, close rate % from sets. Now I have levers I can pull to drive.
Know your people: I really pay attention to my teams learning/communication style and what drives them.
I also notice culture since each person was from different background (Philippines, Serbia and usa).
And I use that knowledge to tie into keeping them accountable, QC, and in the way I motivate them”
Thank you Brett for being an all round good guy!
PS - after 60 days into the role, he’s already received an increase in his monthly base
